Hellooooo

Wow, it's been awhile. So much has changed! We're doing great. I will try and update better later, but for now just a few words. I go back to work in exactly one week. This has me very sad, but I've found a great daycare provider who has a little 4.5 year old boy who LOVES Maya, and the two of them are great play friends. Maya is still super funny, super crazy. She chats a lot, says something like "diddle diddle diddle diddle" or "Dadadadadadadadudududududididid" a lot. She loves giving me kisses...unfortunately usually with teeth. She'll open her mouth and lightly cup her lips around my chin, then go back and forth with her face going "Abuhbuhbuhbuh" while getting me all slobbery. And she's walking! She was cruising on furniture for awhile, then I went away for a day and a couple nights, came back and she took two big steps towards me. Now she walks all over, in her stiff legged, drunken baby gait with her hands held up around her shoulders for balance. I'm happy she is walking before I go back to work. And she turns one on Saturday! Where did the time go?

Other than that, the weather here is grand which is making me happy. I'm running again, which is so YAY, I'm going to be signing up for a 5K in July, and a 10K in August, even though I pretty much run 4 K three times a week and don't think it would be too hard to do a 5K. I'm going to take it slow. Running is such a nice mental break for me, just Shelley time. I love being a mom. The last year has completed me in such a way I never dreamed. I'm so happy, so at peace with my life, my family, etc. Now to throw working back into the mix and see how I do.

Some pics for ya too...

Bad, bad blogger!

Yes, I am. Spank me! Please!

We've been busy 'round these parts lately, only going to get busier I'm sure! Currently I'm spending my time sewing stockings, (I bought a "kit" at the recent craft fair that came through town. it was 50% cheaper to buy the kit and do it yourself. I'm freaking regretting not splurging.) Christmas baking, cleaning the house (BAHAHA) and making lots and lots of baby food! For my baby who hates all solid foods! Crazy kid doesn't know what she's missing, I tell ya.

Maya is seven months, SEVEN! Can you believe it? I know, I can't either. Last week was a pretty exciting week in our household, somewhere around Dec 1 she had her first word; Mama. She was laying on the ground playing/crying and raised her little arms to me and said "Maaaamaaaaaa", and I of course rescued her. Then December 5 she FINALLY popped her first tooth! A couple of days later, she popped the one right next to it! They're both on the bottom, so shouldn't pose too many problems with nursing just yet. This past weekend, I think December 10th she said another word; Dada! Around 5 months she actually said doggy as well...but it was kind of daaaahhhggggiiiieeeee while looking at Cheero (our dog) so we aren't sure whether to count that as first word or not.

She's a little riot, she is. Not crawling yet, but makes good time rolling around on the floor. She likes standing when I hold her so who knows? Maybe she'll skip the crawling bit. She's sure chatting up a storm though, babababa and dadadada and mamama, meh meh meh, and all the squeals and shrieks in between! I have to get on Ian to FINALLY download the video we've been taping of her since she was born. Then you guys are in trouble!

We had some shots done of her for her 6 month photo shoot, good times of year, we got some awesome shots for Christmas cards!

Whee! I've done one set of Christmas cards to family/friends, waiting on some addresses to do more. Maybe there's a hope in hell Canada Post will get them there on time!

Like I mentioned, Maya hates solids, she just is not a huge fan. We had her in for her shots yesterday, finally (usually they are at 6 months) and apparently she's gone down on the growth charts, and is only sixth percentile when it comes to height and weight combined. In none medical person speak it means there aren't many kids who are as tall as her who weigh what she weighs. She's a bean pole like her mommy. I'm not worried because she is thriving and doing well, but it stresses me out a little that she won't eat solids very well. She still nurses like a champ, and "sleeping through the night" is starting to improve...she just needs to put some chunk on her.

So, that's all the news in our world How are y'all doin?

With each passing day...

We get older, it's true. We get wiser, we hope. We love more, hope more, feel more, and see more. And think more, on different subjects, and broaden our minds a little more. Yep, it's that time of year again for me, that birthday time of year. For me, birthdays are a bit of a time of reflection, always have been. What did I do this year, what didn't I do, what am I proud of, what am I not so much proud of , what would I change, and especially, what do I want to do in the next year. The latter is something that Ian actually brought up at dinner this past weekend while we were celebrating, and it got me thinking and even launched me into my first case of insomnia this past weekend. I feel like this is my New Year, this is when the so called "clock" is reset, things are new again, and the year is laid out ahead of me to do what I will with it.

I read my horoscope in the newspaper this past weekend, and it turns out there's actually 5 planets in my sign right now, or was this weekend anyways. I read another horoscope that says today is the day that mercury returns to the place in the sky it was the same day I was born, my "mercury birthday" if you will. Mercury  is going retrograde right now too, which can't but add to the way I'm feeling. From an astro site: "When Mercury is retrograde, everyone's thinking is more introspective and we tend to think about issues and concerns which relate to the sign involved. With Mercury retrograde in Scorpio, people with this sign prominent in their charts will be especially prone to such introspection. There is little choice but to reconsider our personal views and opinions about life. We receive, however, an opportunity to gain insight into our own ego." I love knowing there's a reason for how I feel. I just wish I had some more time to sit and think on it. Well - my gift to myself today is not do any housework, so maybe I'll sit down with a hot cuppa and do just that, take time and just think.

This year too, I kinda want to call my mom and wish HER a happy birthday. All I did today was be born, but 27 years ago SHE brought life into the world. How is it that we never celebrate the mother on birthdays?

The kids in the last photograph, I meant to blog about them earlier. We went for a walk when my mom was here for Thanksgiving, for you Calgarians (esp you K!) over in Bowmont park. We were walking over a bridge and came across these boys jabbering excitedly to each other, carrying this dingy old baby bathtub that I'm sure at least one of them were bathed in at one point. Their jeans are all rolled up to their knees, and the yellow boots were just too cute for me! I somehow knew they had snakes before we got close enough to see...sure enough, garter snakes! The kid in the middle was saying to us "We expect that this ones a female, and this ones a male, and we expect they're going to mate any second now!" He was the loudest of them all, but SO CUTE! They were all in a hurry to get home so their snakes could mate, and oh man I was trying my damndest to hide my laughter. They were just too sweet. K, they reminded me of your boy, totally

I'm such a bad blogger.

Really, I need to make an attempt to blog every day. I tried as well to start a paper journal for Maya but the same thing kept me from updating that as what keeps me from updating here: I get so far behind in updating that I can't keep up because I feel like I need to get caught up before I can update on stuff that just happened. Yes, I'm retarded. I haven't written about New York yet, which was amazing by the way! And we just got back from Ottawa, which was also amazing! Yet I feel like I need to update on those two trips before I can come on here and tell you about how amazing my cutest-baby-in-the-world is doing. She amazes me and makes me smile and laugh every single day! This is my favorite stage so far...though when I see other little babies I wish we could go back in time briefly so i could remember how tiny she was.

These days she's chatting more than EVER, and she's getting more and more vowel sounds down. Gagagagaga on the plane ride back, she always seems to learn something new on our trips. She's also pushing herself backwards, almost backwards crawling. She gets her butt way high up in the air, buries her face in the floor then pushes with her arms. It's pretty funny...and means it's almost time for babyproofing! She's growing so damn fast you guys...I can hold her with one arm now, she's so steady in my arms. She grabs the sides of my face and tries to suck on it, or gives me big open mouth kisses. She loves my nose and my nose piercing, though I've learned how to deftly and swiftly turn my face to avoid her little fingers grabbing it. And she pinches now! PAINFULLY!!! My poor chest is covered in these little red marks from her nails digging in. Yet it makes me smile, because her fine motor skills are progressing so well. She also can pass toys from one hand to the other. Yes, I'm a proud mama. Though I sure as hell don't compare Maya's progress to other kids...or I try really hard not to. As I keep reminding myself, it's only the first year. Just because she may or may not be a genius baby now doesn't mean she's destined for straight A's later, and every baby grows at their own speed. I am just amazed that my baby is learning and doing so much now.

Reading with my mom. Mom said Maya enjoyed reading the book...if she got to turn the pages :)

Kid pic at Thanksgiving at our place. Ages from left to right - 6, 5 months, 5 months (her cousin who is exactly one week older!), 2 months (?), and 1 and a half. I was singing Skinamarinkydinkydoo to make Maya look up.

Lookin cute at her uncles house in Ottawa.

IMG_5130

Still looking cute at her uncles house.

Most of the time when we get comments about her it's 'That's the cutest baby I've ever seen!' and "Oh my god, look at the size of her eyes!" as she tends to open them as wide as she possibly can when we're out and about. She's soaking the world in, she is. She's started to stare at people too until they look at her, then she flashes this HUGE smile. And she talks to the dogs. We have such a happy child!

Had to edit to add one more picture, Maya in her new winter gear!
